Paradise Lost is an influential British gothic metal band that emerged in Halifax, England in 1988. Initially part of the death-doom metal scene, they gradually evolved their sound to incorporate elements of gothic rock, synth-pop, and electronic music, becoming pioneers of the gothic metal genre.

The band's lineup has remained relatively stable over the years, with Nick Holmes on vocals, Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy on guitars, Steve Edmondson on bass (replaced by Stephen "Husky" Hughes in 2012), and Waltteri Väyrynen on drums.
